A Souvenir From Heidnik's House Of Horrors

:: Serial Killers - Heidnik's House of Horrors ::

:: Serial Killers - 20th Century Cannibal ::

Back in the summer of 1988 I was flipping through the stacks of vinyl at the Philadelphia Record Exchange, and overheard a guy (who turned out to be a member of Philly gore-punk band the Serial Killers) laughing and telling the guy behind the counter, “…yeah, the other night we dug up a trash bag full of dirt from Gary Heidnik’s yard. We’re going to include a baggy of it with each copy of our next 7 inch.” My ears instantly perked up with morbid fascination and I made sure to grab a copy when it came out.
Gary Heidnik - torture killer, self-proclaimed bishop of his own church, paranoid schizophrenic, rapist, and cannibal - had become infamous, at least in the Philadelphia area, the year before when one of his victims had escaped and led police to his house and the three remaining sex-slaves chained in his basement. Police also discovered an industrial meat grinder, a pot of cooked, ground up human remains, and a fridge stocked with human limbs in his kitchen. Heidnik’s behavior and his dungeon-basement were later used as a model by Jonathan Demme for the character of Buffalo Bill in “The Silence of the Lambs.”
Pressed on blood-red vinyl, only 1000 copies of this sucker exist (mine is #209). Each did indeed come with a bag of dirt from Heidnik’s front yard, stapled to a Statement of Authenticity.

“Heidnik’s House of Horrors” is an ode to a madman, and though I shouldn’t, I can’t help but laugh with lyrics like “He had a basement straight outta hell/Marquis de Sade would think it was swell”; “Hung some girls up from the rafter/Good, clean sex isn’t what he was after”; or even, “Cruising the city in a Cadillac/Some poor ho tied up in the back.” There’s demented comedy to be found here, though you must first dig through the rudimentary melody, double-bass drum attack, and excessive guitar solo. Side two is, “20th Century Cannibal”, complete with knife sharpening sound effects and a brighter chorus than side A, “I’ll drink your blood and chew your bones/Girl I know just when you’re alone.” Yeah, um…sing along. Just don’t let the neighbors hear you.

YOU ARE A SICKO IF YOU THINK THESE LYRICS ARE LAUGHABLE. OR PERHAPS IGNORANT OF THE TORTURE THESE POOR YOUNG GIRLS WENT THROUGH, LIKE BEING STABBED IN THE EARS WITH SCREWDRIVERS IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE THEM DEAF, OR FORCING THEM TO HANG FOR DAYS BY A HANDCUFFED ARM. THESE GIRLS WERE NOT WHORES, BUT WERE MENTALLY RETARDED, OR UNDERAGE. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF SUPPORTING A BAND THAT LAUGHS AT THE TORTURE AND MURDER OF THESE YOUNG GIRLS. FUCKER.

Well thats not nice.
One of my 3 fave bands is named Heidnik. You're the ignorant one if you think people can't like good bands just because you find their names or lyrics offensive.

Oh and Deborah Dudley, one of his victims, was neither young or mantaly retarded.

Sure, people are free to like what they want, and do what they want. And some people take liberty with that until they become so deviant that others get hurt. If homicide is a form of entertainment, that's a choice. Maybe we'll be reading about another callous person's choices later. Hope they don't involve anyone I know. But then, that's the freedom of apathy right? If you don't know the victim, or if they were mentally ill, dregs of life...whores...then what he did wasn't so bad, right? I mean, he's practically a hero. Who cares for their suffering? Heidnik is cool. Let's show how gritty we can be by grabbing the public by the balls, let's name the band 'Heidnik' and joke about what he did. If this guy could have lived to feel the kudos given to him in a record and lyrics, he may have transcended into the evil realm of glorification given him. Too bad he wasn't around to tell how cool it was. What a gift. How many people get their 15 minutes of fame, after death? But, there is still hope for records like this. Hope for all the teenage boys and young derelicts to be empowered to make good decisions that build good lives. Good lives like those of Heidnik, who is just a cool kick-ass dude who murdered some sluts. Maybe they can martyr themselves to public outrage and lethal injection too. Keep up the good work. We all have an opportunity to make a difference in someone's life. It's awesome. Oh, and while you are making statements, it's 'mentally' not 'mantaly' retarded.

There are killers out there and there are people that direct their expressions about these killers in different ways. People deal with hardships in different ways. This guy was a reality for people in philly area. I dig the fact that there is a good rocking band educating me about this killer and if I laugh and sing along with the lyrics then that's my choice of how I deal with this. Society doesn't like to take the blame for these mentally derranged killers who were tortured themselves as kids and people ignored their mental disabilities. People laughed at them and treated them like hell and that made them worse. There are some very stupid people out there that really should become dirt-they'd be more useful and then might make a funny song! Which is totally harmless! I want this record-that doesn't mean I'm gonna kill anyone or torture anyone. Think of some of the old songs you were taught as a kid -like "ring around the rosey" that's about death! "Ashes-ashes we all fall down!" you are being killed. What a fun song you laughed at as a kid.
