Yes, Yes, Oui Oui

:: Maid In Paris, Le Zip File ::

Ooh, this is the sort of article where I get to use the word "chanteuse." Actually, this is going to be very brief, but long on music. So you sickos who just read the posts and don't listen to the tunes won't have much to chew on here. So yeah, Francoise was a very cute French chick who sang sort of normal pop fare, and she still performs to this day. This album, which I can't find a date for, but must be from the end of the sixties or the beginning of the seventies, contains one side of songs in English, and one in French. I can't decide what's foxier, her little accent when she sings the songs in English or her custard-smooth coo in her native language. Some of these songs have appeared on CD compilations, some evidently have not. It's an interesting mix of stuff, and the very last track even has some psych-fuzz guitars. Bon appetit.

P.S. If you dig this sort of thing, you should regularly check out Blow Up Doll, a fine place indeed.

Thank for your many great posts. Just love the pictures (a great deal of them anyway) and your shares (same). Just sorry I never checked out your blog before. With some luck we might get some reposts. If not, I'm sure the new ones will make up for that generously. So we win anyway...

For French and international 60s pop one of the most disguished blogs are Schlocker. I know Blowupdoll is a longtimer, but it's nowhere near Schlocker in quality and posting frequency etc. I highly recommend this blog.

There are other good ones too, such as Spiked Candy to mention one. But she posts infrequently these day. Another one is Dans Mon Cafe (http://dansmoncafe.blogspot.com/).

Take care!

Thanks! I hadn't been to Schlocker, and to be honest I only stumbled across Blowupdoll a week or so ago. Thanks for the tips, it looks like those blogs are right up our alley.

Just checked the material for this comp. It basically predates her golden period which started - in my opinion - around 1966 and stretched into the early 70s (in which she loses the typical pop approach and develops a more unique and personal style). As I recall it was also around this time she abondoned her record company's wish to turn her into an international pop starlet. Barring her first two albums her early to mid-60s discography is unspectacular (but okay of course).

This is the only music blog I frequent. I've visited the others and they lacked the wide variety of music found here.

Yup... I can confirm Schlocker's grooviness, absolutely. But also take in Dans Mon Cafe - they make a great compliment to each other.

The songs are culled from Le premier... (1) and Mon amie... (11) from 63 and 64. The sleeve I recognise from somewhere, possibly from a back sleeve from one of her early albums. It also appears it was used as a front sleeve for some of her early to mid-60s albums outside France - I've never seen it as a front sleeve on her debut album though. Some versions of the songs on Maid in Paris might however have been recorded anew in the years that followed.

I point this out as this might not be that obvious to non-European visitors. She's a very important artist in a European context for sure.

To anybody who wants to listen more to Hardy her albums between 66 and 71 come most highly recommended. They're an entirely different ballgame altogether and might shed light on why she's so much loved by many European music collectors. Her first two albums are also delightful (62 and 63).

This comp is essentially her Mon amie... album.

Hope this clarifies matters.
